Advertising Design and then Interior Design were challenging enough to keep the creative juices flowing for my earlier years. I pictured myself at the potter’s wheel in retirement but things took a different turn. On a dare, my friend and I ended up at a painting workshop. Not only did I not have an easel or canvas, I didn’t own a brush. That was 10 years ago and those few days changed my life. I haven’t stopped painting since. You can call it “brush mileage” or maybe an obsession but, the act of creating images on canvas is pure joy.

When watching numerous interviews with some of the country’s best artists, one of my take-aways is “paint what moves you”. No apologies. So, I will always throw in some landscape and still lifes in between my feathers and fur. From watching the tiniest birds in our backyards to watching an ostrich dancing through the tall African grass, I’m captivated. I have no idea how or why there is a connection to these creatures but, I try my best to portray their beauty and spirit.

After several years in Chicago and Atlanta, my husband and I settled back in our small hometown in North Carolina. Fortunate enough to travel, I have been able to experience nature’s beauty in many parts of the world. Between the beautiful landscapes and the creatures that inhabit it, the inspiration for painting is endless. I am so thankful for what ability God has given me and also very grateful to the artists that so willingly share their hard earned knowledge of painting

So, I will happily continue this journey trying to learn and improve my skills. I have a long way to go but I'm excited about this path my life has taken.
